The Animated is an exhausting marathon for two female bodies that almost collapse under the power of movement. Movement is not an option, but a command: they are there to be danced. Not the 'pretty' dance, but the dedicated, raw and imperfect one. They are driven by the joy of complete surrender. Are they playful kids, lascivious ladies or minions? The Animated is a duet that deals with our perception of time by investigating the relation between the body and the medium film. It shows how life is constantly moving from one state to the other. Inspiration is the work of the Austrian filmmaker Martin Arnold, who manipulates found footage in a extremely rhythmically way to reach a totally different perception of (time in) everyday situations.
Hilde Elbers and Lea Martini found each other in an inevitable interest in extreme physicality and the multifaciousness of surrendering. The Animated is their first artistic duel. Hilde Elbers works as a choreographer, dance teacher and dancer and is based in Amsterdam. She studied sports and sportteaching at Cios Sittard and contemporary dance at the Fontys academy for modern dance in Tilburg. She has been working in the Dutch and European dancescene, for companies as Constanza Macras/Dorkypark, Conny Janssen Danst, Galili Dance and T.R.A.S.H. Lea Martini is based in Berlin. She studied at the ArtEZ Arnhem and at the school for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. In 2011 she won the Zwaan – the most important Dutch dance award - with the collective White Horse for the performance Trip en masse. Her work braids ten evening filling pieces which are touring within Europe and abroad. Most recently she creates the solo In the inside there is sleeping.
